Autumn TDM

POLYMYTHOS: AUTUMN 2021

Test Drive Meme

Ⅰ. ARRIVAL
You can read all about your character's arrival in the game lore.
The island looks very much like a cute little seaside town from New England, the sort overrun with tourists in the summer. But it’s not summer anymore, is it? No. Even on warm days the air holds a secret knife-edge of chill. Autumn is here.

The gently rolling hills beyond the little town are alive with reds and oranges and yellows, a riot of fall colours just begging to be used as the backdrop for a Hallmark movie. The town itself is likewise picture-perfect, with a bandstand in the middle of the park at the center of town where sometimes bake sales are held during the day and local concerts in the evenings. Mr. Terwilliger from nearby Terror Lake is even going to put on a one-man performance of the entire score of the H.M.S. Pinafore! Is there a church painted white with a red roof? You bet your ass there is. There’s little restaurants and corner shops that will keep you happily fed, and all sorts of little tourist shops that will keep you up to your neck in shitty keychains and postcards.

Notes:
1. Please remember to mark threads appropriately with Content Warnings when necessary.

2. These prompts are a jumping off point - how they affect your character and their development is up to you.

3. These residents of the island are normal humans. Killing them is possible and will affect the colour grading of your Scrywatch depending on the situation.

4. Any food is safe to eat, and is consumable by non-human entities.

5. Have fun!

Ⅱ. PSL 4EVAH
The Coffee Shop AU is an alternate universe fanfiction trope; in most cases, one of two characters is the barista, and the other is or becomes their favorite customer.

Love it? Hate it? Too bad, you’re living it.

That’s right - succumb to the siren call of pumpkin spice and walk through the doors of C’Ya Latte and you’ll find yourself either in line like a normal customer, or suddenly and inexplicably behind the counter. Hope you know how to work that milk steamer.

Regardless of what role you suddenly find yourself in, you won’t be able to leave the coffee shop until a full shift has been completed. Not unless one of you notices that the tip jar on the counter is suspiciously radiant. Thanks for the tip! reads the sign in bubbly letters that actually sparkle, and yes, it’s a clue: if one of you offers up some heartfelt advice to the other, the coffee shop doors will unlock themselves.

Notes:
1. A full shift is eight hours, regardless of what time you may have wandered into the shop. Both customer and barista are trapped for the duration.

2. Yes, the barista gets free drinks.

Ⅲ. PUMPKIN PATCH KIDS
CW: Monsters, blood
If you wander just outside of town, you’ll find a road that is lined on either side with trees displaying their autumn colours. There’s a sign reading “this way to the PUMPKIN PATCH!” with a little arrow pointing down the road, and should you take a stroll you’ll find yourself at a quaint little farm. There’s a big red barn, some goats and chickens you can go and gawk at, an apple orchard, and of course the advertised pumpkin patch.

There is a little stand set up by the entrance to the farmyard, and as you pass by the kid manning it will hand you a cellphone.

“It’s for the scavenger hunt,” she explains with a smile, also handing you a list. “You and a partner have to take a picture of each of the things, and then you come back here and you get a photo prize!”

The list reads:

- one of you holding a pumpkin! :)
- you holding hands while one of you goes down a road/path!
- feet with autumn leaves!
- apple cider or hot chocolate (you can find these at our concession!)
- something you think is truly beautiful!

If this is a little too twee for your tastes, you can of course choose instead to wander the fields of pumpkins and apples. There will be children running around right up until the sun begins to set - one little tyke in orange footie pajamas seems intent on chasing after you as you walk, ducking out of sight whenever you turn to try and see him clearly. He appears to be wearing some sort of mask, which is a little weird.

As the sun bleeds out in the western sky, the shadows of the orchard grow long and longer. If you choose to wander out that way you’ll find that the neat rows of apple trees have begun to twist and turn, creating a maze that spirals inward. Sunlight fades from bruise yellow to purple, and in the twilight you find yourself at the center of the orchard.

There is a mound of earth here. If you walk around it, you will find it’s not just any pile of dirt: it’s a barrow. There is an old, nearly collapsed entrance there just barely showing above the ground. In front of this there is a stone into which the following is carved:

“Accept this sacrifice.”

As you read the words, you feel the ground shiver beneath your feet as the barrow splits open and a creature pulls itself from the stinking womb of the earth.

It is ten feet tall with an emaciated body and a grotesquely oversized head. The skull looks pulpy, and the face is a grinning nightmare of teeth and milky white eyes. Its fingers are nearly as long as its forearms, tipped with claws that cut through flesh as easy as butter.

Looks like it’s time for you to run.

But you cannot seem to find a way out of the maze… even if you can fly. You just seem to wind up back at the center no matter what you do. And the creature is always there, moving toward you as soon as you stumble back to its grave.

Accept this sacrifice.

What could that mean? Has someone given something up for you? Now would be a great time to acknowledge it. Have you given something up for someone else, and resented it secretly all these years? Maybe time to get it off of your chest.

Or maybe you’re much more literal. Maybe you carry a sharp object everywhere you go and don’t mind spilling a little blood… yours or your companions.

Whatever you do, you better do it fast or the creature will sink its talons into you and pull you back into its final resting place.

Notes:
1. If characters complete the photo scavenger hunt, they will each receive a photograph of an important memory.

2. The only way out of the maze is to either cop to a sacrifice - the character’s or another’s - or spill some blood in front of the creature.

3. You can try to fight the creature, but it is extremely difficult to kill. It also has a tendency towards not staying dead, and might pop up again later during your visit on the island when you least expect it.

4. No, you don’t get to keep the cellphone.

Ⅳ. CRAFT FAIR
There is of course a town hall in a town this quaint, and it of course is host to a craft fair! It is, after all, right before the holidays! What holidays? Well. All of them! Look, just come get your uncle some salmon rub and your mother-in-law a candle or something.

The hall has tables end to end, and there’s plenty to buy: jams and jellies, honeys, tea blends, and even locally roasted coffee. There’s jewelry and scarves and knockoff UGGS, knitted toys and home decor that reminds you to live, laugh, and love.

There’s also a row of tables near the back of the hall where you can actually sit down and do some crafts yourself!

There’s a few stations. A lot of locals seem to be making some sort of masks out of straw and twigs and burlap - there doesn’t seem to be any room for you there, though.

More accessible and less unusual are stations to make friendship bracelets at. There’s bright coloured thread and easy to follow instructions! It’ll be fun! No, really - as you work, you’ll start to feel quite relaxed and pleasant. Whoever you’re working next to will also seem super easy to talk to. Who knows? By the end you might have a new friend to give your bracelet to.

Notes:
1. You can purchase things from the fair, but if you can’t fit it in your bag it will not come with you off-island.

2. Eavesdropping on the locals making masks, you’ll hear them talk about ‘the holidays’ a lot, but that’s the extent of it.

Greetings, prospective Travelers! Welcome to the Autumn 2021 POLYMYTHOS test drive meme and thank you for your interest in our game! Our next application round will run from August 27 - September 3, 2021. For the Autumn season, we invite you to use this TDM to explore but one of many, many islands within the Endless Isles; use it as an opportunity to introduce and familiarize yourself with the game, form connections with other characters, and just have some fun. (Perhaps while also getting some solid samples together for your application!)

Use the prompts provided below as-is or feel free to write your own set within the environment detailed in each. You're even welcome to access the network via your character's ScryWatch. Molly Hayes | Marvel Comics

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-14 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
II. (Note: Takes place after any events of III)

"C'ya Latte?!? That's totally amazing!!"

Molly giggles as she pulls the door open, setting off the jingle of the quaint little bell above. It's so retro!!! This feels like those old movies she used to watch with her parents. She looks around, taking in all of her surroundings with wide gleaming eyes. Honestly, she didn't know how she'd ended up here, or if this was a dream, or what. Her friends weren't here, and that bummed her out a little - well, a lot - but so far she'd had fun. The pumpkin patch had been so cool.

Of course, now she was pretty thirsty and had a powerful need for some caffeine or the usual lethargy that came from exerting herself would claim her. She'd gotten better at not passing out right away when she used her powers, but she still got so tired. Without friends here to catch her, she knew better than to let sleep happen by herself.

She skips right up to the counter, which she can only just peer over. "I want a PSL please!!!" Call Molly Basic if you want, but she was downright giddy at the prospect of her first PSL of the season.

While she waited, she bounced foot to foot and admired her new bracelet. It gleamed bright green at her, and she'd managed to find a cute bandana that matches it. She had no idea what it was for, but it sure was pretty.

III - A: (Because Molly is the most twee and don't you forget it.)

A Pumpkin Patch?!? Molly could not be more excited. She was an LA kid, an urban creature through and through, so she had limited experiences with farm kitsch, and this was like freaking Disneyland to her. No, better. She'd been to Disneyland. Never in her life had she gone to a legit pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin, do a hayride, or get her face painted with fun fall designs.

When the girl that's just a bit older than her flags her down, Molly walks over to the stand and accepts the list and starts to turn away the cell phone.

"It's okay, I have my-" She pats her pockets with the increasingly frantic motions of someone who's lost something. "Oh no!! OH NO!!! My phone!!!! I can't be here without my phone!! Nico will kill me!!! And Chase! And everyone!!" Honestly, all of her friends were pretty protective of her. Also, Molly, like any self-respecting tween, was very, very attached to her phone.

The kid talks her down, likely used to dealing with new Travelers who are just coming to realize what they did and didn't have from their previous lives. It takes a few minutes, and Molly is still chewing her lower lip by the end, but she's not freaking out and is even reading the list, growing more and more pleased with the possibilities of joy it presents.

Until she remembers something.

"But...but I don't have a partner..." Her whole face wibbles as she faces the reality of what she didn't have from her previous life that was far more important than her phone.

Unfortunately, the kid helming the scavenger hunt stand is far less well versed in dealing with this kind of loss. She starts gesturing frantically to anyone who might possibly volunteer to be a random child's partner for a scavenger hunt.

III-B: (Because Molly does so enjoy punching monsters in the face.)

Having (probably) finished the scavenger hunt, and with no chaperone of any kind, Molly has taken to wandering the fields in delight. This is pure autumnal joy right here. It is everything the city is not. This isn't to say Molly hates the city - she actually quite likes all of its amenities - but this was like wandering through something out of a fantasy novel.

Some kid in orange pajamas seems to be following her, but every time she stops to lift a hand and wave, perhaps to beckon the kid forward to play, he darts away. It just makes Molly shrug and continue her explorations.

The day grows long, the light begins to wane, and she realizes she should start getting back. She darts through some apple trees, trying to take a short cut through an orchard. Instead, the orchard swallows her up. Several confusing twists and turns later and she's at a mound of dirt.

"What the...'accept this sacrifice'? What sacrifice?"

She is thoroughly confused, and then a monster pops out.

"GAH!!!!"

Her eyes flare pink and she punches out instinctively, and the thing's chest literally caves in as it flies back and hits a tree, falling to a broken lump at the tree's base.

"Oh geez, I'm sorry I'm sorry, you surprised me, I'm sorry!!!" She runs up to the broken body of the creature and checks it out. "Please don't be dead! I didn't mean to!! You shouldn't pop out of the ground when you look scary like that!!!"

"I don't seem to have a partner, either," a woman says from behind her. Chloe offers her a smile and a little wave, drawn perhaps to the young girl because she is - well, she's just a kid, isn't she? She might be about Trixie's age. And she really shouldn't be wandering around unsupervised. Chloe feels almost sick at the thought of Trixie in that position.

"My name is Chloe," she says, offering a hand to shake. "What's yours?"
cute_hats: (Where is home?)

I really need to get around to watching Lucifer!

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-15 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
The kid manning the stand gives Chloe the most grateful of looks. She hadn't been sure if she was about to have a bawling lost child situation on her hands or not, and if there was one thing you weren't trained for as a child manning a fun scavenger hunt stand...it was another child losing it.

Molly wasn't about to bawl or anything though. She was a big girl! Way more mature than most kids her age. She'd, like, saved the world and stuff. But she was about to have the most epic of sads. This random grownup behind her startled her and distracted her, though.

Molly turned and looked up, examining Chloe with a critical eye. On the one hand, she was not nearly so distrustful of adults as some of her friends were, especially Gert. She still missed her parents (even though they'd been super villains) and she'd stayed with her Grandma for a while (even though she'd been kind of a mad scientist type). That made her unique among the Runaways. BUT. She did still kinda view adults with a bit of a suspicious eye. Stranger Danger, and all that.

You wanna know what's powerful motivating force to get over such reservations, though? Being alone. Completely alone. On a random island with no friends and a whole pumpkin patch to explore that would not be nearly as much fun by yourself.

So after a few moments, she sticks out her hand and shakes Chloe's decisively. "Hi Chloe! I'm Molly!"

No last name, though. Don't ever give an adult your last name, Gert said. It was like giving them your password. They could use it to find you.
detectivemiracle: (199)

everyone does ;)

[personal profile] detectivemiracle 2021-08-15 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's nice to meet you, Molly."

Under normal circumstances, of course, Chloe would never just approach a random child she doesn't know and start making conversation. Not that her life has been "normal" in any way for the past several years, but this is a whole new level of weird right now, and she gets the feeling this girl is in kind of the same boat - feeling adrift, anyway.

"I could use some help with this scavenger hunt, if you want to," she continues, earnest. "Do you like going to the pumpkin patch?"
cute_hats: (So freakin' cool)

I did see his cameo in the Arrowverse crossover event! THAT was brilliant.

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-15 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
She nods. Having decided upon a course of action, she was all in. Besides, if this adult proved to be untrustworthy, she could take care of herself. As long as she wasn't, like, the literal devil or anything. But even then!!! Molly had dealt with the Gibborim before, which were gods in and of themselves, so...yeah! She was good. Even if she didn't have her friends backing her up this time.

"Nice to meet you too, Miss Chloe!" She glances back at all the pumpkins and the hay bale maze in the distance and the orchard off to the side as a hay wagon goes trundling by. "No...I'm from LA. We don't have many pumpkins there. But I've seen the La Brea Tar Pits!! Which isn't as pretty, but it IS pretty cool."

Molly holds out the list of things they're supposed to do and the phone. "I think this could totally work out. You're taller than me, so you can get the good angles and we can WIN!"

The girl at the stand clears her throat a little behind Molly and says, "Um, everyone's a winner if you get all of the pictures!"

"We'll win HARDER!" Hey, a little competition always made it more fun.
detectivemiracle: (137)

it's worth your time :)

[personal profile] detectivemiracle 2021-08-15 07:18 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think, you know, as long as we have fun, that's the same as winning," Chloe remarks easily. There's a kind of assurance in the way she interacts with children that only comes with being a parent herself.

And she's definitely not the devil. She's just dating him.

"I take my daughter to a pumpkin patch every year," she adds as they set out on their quest. "Her name is Trixie. She loves carving Jack-O-Lanterns. She also thought the La Brea Tar Pits are super cool, though. I bet you two would like each other."
cute_hats: (Default)

I shall add it to the list! It's dangerous because that Lucifer is probably my type of character.

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-16 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Spoken like a true adult," Molly returns, giving Chloe a wry look. But there's affection there too. It's absolutely something her parents would have said, and the memory makes her happy.

As she reads the list over again, she sticker her tongue out a little in thought. The first one was easy, they just had to decide who would hold the pumpkin. The second...how to get a picture of them holding hands? The next two were super easy, basically gimmes. And the last one...they had to find something beautiful enough to be worth the picture. That would be the best challenge.

"Wait, you do?" Her comments about her daughter caught up to Molly. "AND she's been to the tar pits? Are you from LA too, or have you just visited?"

As she talks, she starts walking purposefully towards the pumpkins. The first is easy, but they definitely have to find the best pumpkin for a picture.
detectivemiracle: (017)

[personal profile] detectivemiracle 2021-08-16 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm from LA," Chloe says with a smile. "Lived there all my life. This place is a little chilly for me, I don't know about you."

She's used to sunshine, beaches, palm trees, and the chilliest days never dropping below 60.

"Do you want to hold the pumpkin?" she asks. "I can take the picture, you just pick out the one you think is best."
cute_hats: (Where is home?)

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-18 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's so chilly!!!!!" Molly rubs her arms, which have little goosebumps. Fall is not a thing she's really experienced, like, ever. It's hard to travel a lot when you're small and have no parents. Well, aside to traveling through time or to really freaking cool places where you get to punch monsters in the face. That was different.

"How'd you find pumpkin patches?," she asks, curious. "Was it cause I can't drive that I couldn't get to them?"

When Chloe asks if she wants to be the one to hold the pumpkin, Molly's eyes go wide and greedy. Of course she wants to be the one to hold the pumpkin. Having a picture of herself holding a pumpkin would be so cool. Never mind that she couldn't take the phone with her when she left this place. But she wavers.

"...how often do you get to be the one in the picture though? Once you become a grownup, it seems like it's always about us kids. I don't wanna grow up, but if I DO, I know I'd want it to be about me sometimes too."

((ooc: Sorry for the delay! I, um, spilled a bunch of tea all over my last laptop's keyboard so I had to run out and get a new one. It was super dumb of me, but at least it's my Macbook Air and not my gaming rig. A biiiiit cheaper to replace.

Also P.S. I am Spazztichero on Plurk. It just lists me as playing Deadpool right now though until I decide on if Molly graduates to the big leagues!))

no worries, stuff happens!

[personal profile] detectivemiracle 2021-08-19 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Google helps," Chloe says with a faint smile. "There's a particularly good one in Pasadena." It's true, being an adult with easy Internet access and a car definitely helps in finding interesting places to take Trixie.

"But, I suppose we could do one of each of us? I'll take one of you, and you take one of me."

Seems equitable enough.
cute_hats: (Default)

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-19 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh my ggoooooooooooooood." Molly face palms and holds her head. "Did I really just get told to "Google it" by a Boomer?! I'm gonna be ashamed forever. But I totally deserved that."

In point of fact, Chloe is nowhere close to a Boomer. She's in kind of a weird zone that some would call Xennials, between X and Millennial, but definitely closer to a Millennial side of that divide. But you know. Try telling a child like Molly that. Old is old.

"I like that idea!!! You'd look super cute holding a pumpkin!! And there are some big ones over there!" She dashes off to get to them before anyone else can.
detectivemiracle: (034)

[personal profile] detectivemiracle 2021-08-19 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Chloe blinks. "I am not a boomer," she says, rather indignantly. Her mother is a boomer! She's not even forty! At least Lucifer has the excuse that he's literally an immortal celestial being with no concept of the passage of time. This kid is just rude.

Oh, well.

"Just don't hurt yourself trying to pick one up," she comments, following the girl more slowly. "It doesn't have to be the biggest pumpkin, does it?"
cute_hats: (Bruiser)

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-19 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Molly peers up at Chloe as if assessing her, but also a little confused. There isn't disbelief in her eyes, but perhaps it's worse that she just honestly does not know what Chloe is if not a Boomer. She's still at that age where all adults are just old people. In truth, her knowledge is an amalgamation of ignorance when it comes to anyone over 18 and having fun playing with the "Okay Boomer" phrase (without truly knowing its meaning beyond "ugh, grownup stop being dumb").

"What are you, then?" She's honestly curious. After all, she does like to learn things.

When Chloe tells her not to hurt herself, Molly just sees that as a challenge. Now she just wants to show off. Gert would probably caution her not to show an adult that she has powers because that could lead to Bad Things, but Molly likes this woman and she also just kinda likes to show off sometimes. Now the challenge is to find the biggest one that is also cute.

It takes a bit, but she does happen upon a prize-winning style pumpkin that is probably there more for decoration and ambiance than for sale. Nobody here could pick it up, after all, so who would possibly take it to where you pay for them?

Molly, of course. If she was buying one. But it had been made clear to her that you couldn't carry much between the islands, so this was mostly just creating memories.

"How about this one!" Her eyes glow faintly pink as she picks it up over her head as if it were made out of nothing more than styrofoam, like those fake movie props.
detectivemiracle: (031)

[personal profile] detectivemiracle 2021-08-20 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, okay, so she may be a little hard on the girl - she is a child, after all, and she doubts Trixie would know the difference, either. Not that she's ever heard the words okay, Boomer from her daughter's mouth.

"I'm a millennia - ah."

Well, that is a thing she's doing. It's not that Chloe has never seen a person with superhuman strength before - she just didn't expect such a thing from a child.

"What - what are you?"
cute_hats: (I'm a mutant)

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-20 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
"You're a thousand years old?!? That's freaking awesome! Unless you're evil. Please don't be evil. But wow, that's way older than a Boomer!!! You know, I once knew a vampire, but he was a jerk." She makes a face. "He tried to use us like Capri Suns and when he bit my friend Karolina, he died. Her blood is sunlight."

At Chloe's reaction, Molly beams. "I'm a mutant!! But not a mean one like Mr. Sinister. Who names themself Mr. Sinister? I mean, unless you just want to be bad. At least he advertises it." She shrugs. "I'm a good one like Northstar, who is my favorite X-person. I have a poster of him on my wall! It used to be Wolverine, but he's dumb and has tried to drag me away from my friends a lot so I've had to punch him really hard. I was going to marry him, but not any more. And I can't marry Northstar because he's married already! I need a new famous crush. Anyways, you better not be prejudiced around me because one day I might be an X-person. Maybe. I've turned them down like three times now, but that's only because they keep trying to take me away from my friends."
detectivemiracle: (228)

[personal profile] detectivemiracle 2021-08-20 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, that's - that's a lot of information all at once. Of course, being the mother of an energetic and imaginative daughter means that Chloe is sort of used to the stream-of-consciousness monologuing that can sometimes happen, so she can let it wash over her, picking up bits and pieces that seem like they might be important facts.

Also Trixie had an X-Men phase recently so there's that.

"...Millennial. I'm a millennial." If Molly has heard the phrase okay boomer then there's a good chance she's heard millennials ruined. "I'm thirty-eight, and I'm not a vampire. Promise."

If her life was less weird before now, she might be freaking out a lot more. For better or worse, she's used to bizarre shit, so this is more or less rolling off her like water off a duck's back.

"I'm sorry, you just startled me is all. I've never met someone your age who is so strong."
cute_hats: (Smile!!)

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-21 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Ooooooh..." Molly peers at her. "Huh, I thought I was a millennial."

Honestly, she didn't know what she was. All she knew was people talked about millennials like they were young people, and she was a young person, so it only made sense that that was what she was. Unfortunately, she had not googled it, like, ever and now she couldn't so...oops?

"Well, I like avocado toast too?"

Hey, it was a point of connection! Maybe!

"Well of course not. I'm Princess Powerful!! Did you get a good picture yet? Or was I making a goofy face? I wanna make sure it's a good smile..."
detectivemiracle: (139)

[personal profile] detectivemiracle 2021-08-21 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're not a millennial," Chloe assures the child. Who knows what her generation is called? Not that it matters.

Oh, also she forgot to snap a picture, because she was so startled by the show of strength. Though the name Princess Powerful just reminds her of Trixie again. It's exactly the sort of superhero name her daughter would give herself.

"Try again. Smile for me."

She holds up the camera, offering the girl a smile of her own. See? Super strength, no big deal!
cute_hats: (Smile!!)

[personal profile] cute_hats 2021-08-21 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"What am I then??" And of course it matters instantly to Molly now that neither of them know it. Her mind has seized upon this mystery and now she must know!!! At least, in this exact moment, until she's distracted by the next thing.

Molly puts on her biggest, brightest smile, which isn't hard because overflowing with positivity is another unspoken superpower of hers. Even when she's accidentally rude, it's hard to dislike the kid. Maybe she really would be besties with Trixie if she met the girl. Heck, if she was half the actual devil, it wouldn't even matter to Molly because she was friends with all types.

"Okay, your turn!! I went for the biggest, so we gotta find the cutest for you now. Or the most interesting. Some have really funky warts, and that's kinda cool."

III a.

[personal profile] welltakerwishgiver 2021-09-01 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Nulo has finally gotten to feel the sun and is curious about everything. Possibilities they never knew existed, at least not for them. It's with wonder and delight that they're wandering around a pumpkin patch, and they overhear some of the commotion going on when Molly doesn't seem to have a phone... whatever that is. But it seems like it's getting resolved, even as they're curiously eavesdropping. (They're not doing it to be rude. There's so much they haven't learned.)

That's when they overhear Molly say they don't have a partner. With intrigue, Nulo steps toward them.

"If you like, we can be your partner."

They have no idea what a scavenger hunt is, but they'll be more than happy to assist!

Molly jumps, not expecting to hear someone behind her. When she turns around, her mouth falls open. Is that an alien?! Aliens are awesome! Well, the aliens she knows at least. Karolina is one of her best friends, and Xavin was pretty cool too.

"I didn't know this place could nab aliens too!!," she blurts out. "Or...are you an alien?"

At first, she peers around Nulo a bit, looking for who else may be with them. Then she realizes the "we" is their pronoun, like Xavin. Realization dawns in her eyes and she nods to herself.

"We can totally be partners! My name is Molly, what's yours?"

"Aliens?" Nulo raises an eyebrow, if only for a moment. Then when she clarifies that she wishes to know if they are the alien, it makes more sense. Something foreign, at the very least, and Nulo is aware that they certainly don't look like they would blend in with humans. So it's with a small, amused smile that they answer.

"We are simply us. If an alien is what you wish to call us, we accept." Nulo's not sure if there are others of their own kind, and so has never worried about what they would call their own species. Alien in this at least doesn't seem to be malicious. And hey, maybe alien means there are more of their kind. Maybe they'll get to meet them someday.

"Our name is Nulo." They're more than willing to give it, especially since Molly offered hers first. "What do we do as partners?"

"Hi Nulo!"

Simply us, huh? Well, that makes sense. Molly imagines that if she was on another world where she was an alien, she wouldn't think of herself as an alien. Many kids her age aren't great at thinking outside of themselves like that, but Molly has led an interesting life over the past few years that have kind of forced her to have a much wider perspective.

"Well...alien to me at least. But to you, I bet I'm the alien! Anyways...we need to get a picture of one of us holding a pumpkin..."

She looks across the field, pondering where the best ones might be.

"We have met many humans. They are not alien to us."

In a world where humans are the thriving species... they wonder how Eyya must be doing... They miss them terribly. But she just disappeared one day. For a moment, there's a frown on Nulo's face. But it shifts to one of curiosity as they, too, seek out an ideal pumpkin.

They sift through a small part of a patch, trying to find one that would best suit the rules.

They hold up a rather small one (small things tend to be nice, and what they are usually given as favours).

"Does the size of it matter?"

"Not even a little?"

Of course, Karolina wasn't alien to Molly but...she'd known Karolina her whole life, and Kare had not known she was an alien until really recently. And Xavin, well Xavin was obviously an alien. But they could look human whenever they wanted so...hm. What made an alien, then? Was it just looks?

"OOOOO! That is adorbs! Make a pose with it and I'll snap a pic!"
